Melbourne Trip

I'm back from Melbourne! I'm so tired now.. The train ride back was a bitch.. Next time I'll either fly or get a sleeper compartment..
The first day, we were heading to the airport for our flight to Melbourne, and because of the heavy traffic, some of us couldn't reach the airport in time and we missed our flight! this is the first time in my life that I missed a flight.. Luckily the people there let us get on a later flight at no extra charge.. really felt like I was in the Amazing Race.. haha..
Melbourne is a nice city but I think I would still prefer Adelaide.. The first thing I noticed in Melbourne was that the pace of life was a little faster than Adelaide wonder how I will cope when I'm back in Singapore! haha.. The people in Melbourne were walking faster than us and everywhere we went we were like 'swakoos'.. We were like, 'Wah here got HMV!!', 'Wah here got Starbucks!!!' or generally, 'WAH!!!!'
Also met up with Jiahui who brought me around to eat Thai food.. the food in Melbourne is not bad.. especially the Gelati!! haha.. Had it 4 out of the 5 days i was there..haha just like when we were in Germany and we bought gelati everytime we passed by the shop no matter how cold the weather was.. We also tried the Metre long pizza they had in one restaurant.. it was not too bad.. The Melbourne Comedy Festival was also on and we wanted to watch it but didn't in the end cos there was no time.. and they were showing Mamma Mia too which I missed in Singapore.. hope they come to Adelaide..
The transport in Melbourne is freaking ex.. so ex that even most of the locals don't pay for the trams.. We also didn't pay the full fare.. So we were always on the look out for the conductors.. We could have been fined 150 if we were caught.. haha... So if we saw them boarding the tram, we would get off the tram.. luckily we only encountered them once..
Another thing I learned during this trip was that it is a really really small world! everyone seemed to know someone else and they were all interconnected! Freaky!
On the last day we saw Max Brenner's!! haha went to have the suckao and the chocolate souffle.. really miss Max Brenner's man.. and the milk for their suckao is free flow! spent a really long time there.. haha..
Before catching the train back to Adelaide, we visited the casino.. Now I know why gamblers keep on going back for more.. It's quite addictive! And also casinoes make shitloads of money! haha.. Went around the tables looking at people winning and losing money.. After that went to the train station for the uncomfortable ride back to Adelaide.. Pictures soon!

Shopping

Got to drive again today! haha my friend rented a car so we could go around shopping in the outskirts of town.. Went to this place called Harbourtown where they have lots of factory outlets and the clothes there are damn cheap.. Didn't buy anything but did have my eye on this Converse jacket.. hmm maybe next time.. After that went to the Levi's factory outlet in another ulu part of town.. The jeans there are freaking cheap! you could get a pair of Levi's for as low as $16! Got myself a signature series for about $40.. Went to a the Pancake Kitchen for pancakes after that to celebrate Jamie's birthday.. every tuesday you only pay $5 for unlimited pancakes.. I am so sick of pancakes not.. they fill you up very fast.. ugh..
Going to Melbourne tomorrow! so i guess I won't be online till monday!

Finally

Yay! Its the last day of school! haha.. gonna have a 2 week mid sem break.. can finally rest.. gonna melbourne next week! too bad can't rent a car.. must be above 21.. hai cannot go the great ocean road.. shall go next year! and one of these years, i shall drive to perth.. hahaha

Loss

By now, everyone should know that Pope John Paul II has gone home to the Lord.. When I heard the news, I followed the CNN very closely cos reading Angels and Demons sparked some interest in all the tradition in the death of a pope and the re-election of a new one. When I watched segments of the Pope's life, I really felt that he was truly a great man, expecially when he went to visit his assassin in jail and forgave him. It must take a lot to be able to forgive the person who tried to kill you. And also when he started this World Youth Day thing where he tried to reach out to the youth, who are not as religious as the older generation and the youths were all like chanting his name.. whoah.. At least he is suffering no longer from all his illnesses and that he died in serenity with the chorus of prayer from people all over the world.. I hope that the next pope would be able to fill his large shoes and carry on his work..

Bored

Argh.. i'm so bored.. look at what boredom can do to me..

Argh.. wonder what is wrong with this place! It is supposed to be Autumn now and the weather is freaking hot! hotter than summer! everyday is like 30+ degrees! gosh what would I do without an aircon.. can't wait for next week when lower temperatures are predicted..

Barossa Valley

Yesterday was Easter Monday.. We rented a few cars to go on a road trip to the outskirts of the city.. It was fun! We went to Barossa Valley for the wine festival.. dropped by a few vineyards to taste their wine.. its all free flow there! haha.. I tasted many different kinds of wine even though I was driving! haha.. The view was breathtaking.. of the Adelaide hills and the grapevines all over the land.. shall post photos another time cos I'm still so tired from yeaterday.. haha.. only reached home at one plus in the morning.. and had to crawl out of bed today at 7+ to go top up the car and return it..
After Barossa valley, we went to the summit of Mt. Lofty to view the sunset, but by the time we got up there, the sun had already set! haha.. but we still had a very nice night view of the city nonetheless.. after that we went to the German settlement of Handhorf for dinner.. had pork knuckles! haha miss those in Germany though..
On the way back, I went whizzing down the freeway at 150.. It was damn fun! haha really let of all my steam last night! thank goodness there was no TP traps.. hahaha.. anf after the taste of driving again last night, i'm even more tempted to get a car now!

Morialta Falls

Today's Good Friday! Long weekend! they have holiday on monday too.. so its a nice long weekend.. the people here are really slack! they don't work on public holidays! even some Mac's! so really nothing to shop.. so we decided to go see the Morialta falls.. so we went to hike through the Morialta Falls Park..

The park was HUGE... it had 3 waterfalls and to walk all 3, you would have to cover about 10km.. and they had different trails for different levels of difficulty... quite fun..

You may be wondering why after all these picture I didn't put up any waterfall pics.. cos we didn't see the falls!!! haha.. cos it was an even longer trek in and we were all wrongly attired! some in jeans and some in slippers.. we really didn't know we would have to walk that much.. yeah so we decided to go off.. I wanna go back again to see the falls.. maybe all 3.. quite fun to trek in there.. its not too hot.. yeah and its not bad to be in the bush as a civilian... haha...

After that we went to try out their train system.. so we took a train to nowhere.. when we went into the train, it was so dark! they didn't turn on the lights.. we thought, wah save electricity until like that ah.. so we then went on to do touristy stuff like taking photos in the train cabin..



then a train conductor came in to tell us we were in the wrong train! he said if a train was actively in service the lights would be on.. so MALU!! hahaha.. so we took the train that went to the hills and the view was spectacular.. could see all the way to the pacific.. wanna live in the hills.. haha.. so we went to this station called blackwood and went back to the city..

I'm so tired now.. can't wait for Monday! we're renting cars to go Barossa Valley!

Survivor

Today, as part of our course in Medical Personal and Professional Development, we had a live interview in the LT.. they set up a camera in a small room next to the LT and broadcast a live feed to the LT.. They interviewed this woman who had breast cancer and basically just showed us techniques for interviewing people.. she was very responsive and I really admirer her courage and strength in fighting the disease.. She really didn't let anything get her down.. She's really one tough survivor.. soon I'll get to go to clinics all over town every week and interview patients.. hope i'll get people as nice as her.. heh

Million Dollar Baby

Finally caught Million Dollar Baby.. its quite a good film.. ending was quite sad.. the only thing i didn't like was their voices are too husky! sometimes i couldn't make out what they were saying! and how can she talk if she can't breathe?! hmm... I feel so cheated.. after we bought the tickets for the show, we went to the theatre and there was no one there to check our tickets! we could have just walked in without buying tickets.. argh.. after the film we scooted over to a neighbouring theatre and we caught the second half of Bride and Prejudice.. it is a such a cheesy show! ang moh version of a typical indian show.. with indian style english songs also.. ugh lucky i didn;t have to pay to watch it.. haha..

Day at Clipsal

Went to Clipsal yesterday.. had a trememdous time.. the engines of the cars were so powerful.. took some short videos with my camera who wants i can send to you.. haha.. i'm all burnt now cos the sun was so strong and there was not a cloud in the sky.. We managed to get seats in the VIP box for the government of South Australia and had the best view of the track! could see the pits and the starting and finishing line, and also with a view of the hairpin turn.. there were quite a view crashes.. so exciting! haha.. uploaded most of my photos online so just click on the title above to view the photos.. here's one of them..

Jazz Night

The medical students society organised a jazz night in one of the parks today..



there was quite a number of people.. but the jazz band was so-so lah.. they played mostly simple jazz pieces.. but the picnic atmosphere was not bad.. nowhere in singapore will people just sit around on the grass and drink wine and all that.. the free flow of cider was good.. haha.. on our way over to the park, I saw this at the junction..

Hitch

I finally managed to catch a movie! caught Hitch today.. its not a bad movie.. quite funny.. really recommend it to anyone who wants a good laugh and maybe learn how to hook up with girls (mr lim).. haha.. yeah and the trailer doesn't really paint a accurate picture of the show.. Think I shall watch a movie every Tuesday.. cos every other day tickets are an exhorbitant $10.50 for students!! and on tuesdays its only $5.50! But my tuesdays are also my longest school days! 8am-7pm! hai.. Nvm lah.. I think i shall watch Million Dollar Baby next Tuesday!

Weekend

The weekend's over so soon! argh and i haven't done my work yet.. went out the whole weekend.. went to the central market yesterday.. the fruits there were so cheap! bought lots of grapes.. haha.. hope i can finish them.. if not can try to crush them and make wine.. haha.. its quite a cool place and the things there get cheaper as time goes by cos they wanna clear their stock by the time they close, which is like 3pm.. so when 3 o'clock is coming they start selling whole crates of fruits and vegetables for like 2 bucks.. haha.. today went to this HUGE shopping centre which has like 4 supermarkets, 3 department stores and many other smaller shops.. but it was quite far away from the city centre so i took this bus that travelled by this system called O-Bahn.. its so cool! its like this MRT track for buses.. and when the buses get on it, they travel to like 100 km/h.. DAMN COOL! haha.. view from the bus is fantastic too.. shall bring u all on a tour if u all ever come visit.. haha.. then on the way back they were having WOMADelaide at the botanical gardens and they were having this fire display thing which was very spectacular! too bad i didn't have my camera with me.. if they come next year I will definitely go! oh yeah and Clipsal is coming.. where they convert part of the city's road to a race track and they have a car race here.. heard its quite a big event.. so maybe i'll go check it out..

I see dead people

School has finally started! so far its been quite ok.. just some introductory lectures and stuff.. Today we were introduced to cadevers! it was so much fun! haha had fun moving his intestines around looking for the kidneys, spleen etc.. and i really love the feel of lungs! so soft and spongy! hahaha.. the smell was manageable and i didnt get to see anyone vomit and faint.. heh.. also had my first spanish class today.. i hadn't got my textbook so everything was martian to me.. i learnt Mi numbre es Eugene! haha.. and the freaking book is like $200!!! oh my god! and I thought only medical books were expensive.. goodness..

haha finally managed to fix my archives and i discovered that the FRC was formed on April 22 2002.. my god how time flies.. and i found our pledge.. haha..

School proper is finally starting tomorrow.. Kinda excited.. but thinking that I have not been in school for 2 years, dunno if can get the momentum going again.. at least there will be stuff to occupy me and it won't be so boring.. haha.. hope i can find a cinema nearby.. there are so many movies i wanna catch! but heard the tickets here are freaking expensive.. hai... can someone help me order from tothesoft and send it over? hahaha...

Singaporeans!

Ponned my first lecture today.. haha.. a few of us wanted to go down to glenelg beach to have a look see but in the end we ended up walking around chinatown.. i have never felt happier seeing char siew and roast duck! and apparently half a duck is only like 6 dollars.. haha.. after almost a week of being here, i finally ate rice today!!! never felt so satisfied in my life.. haha and the place we ate at gave very generous portions.. haha one portion for an australian is like enough to feed 3 of us.. and we only ended up paying like 2 bucks each for a very filling meal.. i think we should eat this everyday.. the only thing about this place is its so damn slack! shops close at 5! even most restaurants! where the hell do people eat dinner! there's like almost no life after 5! and the sun only sets at 8+ so its damn weird also.. too used to the sun setting at 6, 7+.. oh well.. lessons starting next week.. sian.. but at least will have something to occupy my time.. i think i should buy a tv to put in my room.. saw a cash converters here! maybe i could get a cheap tv.. and back to chinatown.. stepping into some of the shops there is like stepping into econ minimart! haha saw Yeo's packet drinks, salted fish, salted vegetables and chu qian yi ding! haha.. boy do i miss home..

back from first day of orientation at med sch.. got a nice little goody bag.. the contents, chocolates, a strip of vanilla flavoured condoms and a christian fellowship brochure! how diverse! hahaha... and after reading a course description of my professional english elective, i just found it too nauseating to carry on.. haha with essays, public speaking, exams etc.. so i decided to drop it! and now i'm doing spanish! Ola senors and senoritas!! hahaha...

I'm so bored! nothing much to do but wait for school to start.. haha.. shops close at 5, do not open on sundays.. oh how i miss orchard! i'm craving for simpang and some milo dinos too will some kind soul please FedEx some over! one kosong one egg please... finally managed to get my enrolment done after some confusion over the payment of my fees.. hai.. so hard to choose electives.. all the electives that interest me always clash with my timetable! i ended up picking Professional English for semester one.. YUCKS!! I mean like, a particular teacher (no names here) essentially killed off any interest whatsoever that i had for english and now i have to do it as an elective that counts toward me advancing to year 4..
argh.. hope i can get more interesting electives in future.. really hope i can get to learn a foreign language.. like jap or french.. haha.. at least i'm doing something interesting in sem 2.. Limb Dissection! yay! haha..

yesterday was my last working day in the army!! yay!! I am finally free of my bondage... for now.. will have to go back at the end of the year but oh well, much of the time will be spent clearing my leave and MC's.. haha... 11 days left in singapore! havent done my shopping yet.. haven't even done my new year shopping! argh... sent my friend off at the airport yesterday.. so many people were there.. heh.. i hate farewells, even though i will meet him in school a few weeks later.. hahaha..

I feel so stuffed! had dinner at dragon gate today.. oh my god.. ate till i couldn't breathe.. i think i ate enough to feed a small african province.. haha... had a great time with everyone.. hope we'll still be this close 6 years later.. haha.. 6 years is a long time.. hope i will still be in contact with everyone during this time.. with friends from choir, camp, friends for 9 years etc.. heh.. hope in time we'll be friends for 19 years and so on.. hahaha...

hmm just about 3 weeks left in singapore and I havent done much preparation.. dun even know wad to bring.. and there's so little time left to spend with friends... argh.. still have to go and get books.. so expensive! so yeah.. all you people out there let's have dinner at dragon's gate this fri!

For those who do not know yet, I got into medicine at U of Adelaide.. and i'll be leaving in slightly more than a month's time.. so fast.. so soon.. so much unfinished business.. its great news but somehow I am having mixed feelings.. haha.. I already resigned myself to not going aussie liao and suddenly i got the call today.. leaving all my friends here.. oh well.. must really keep in contact with everyone..
so much things to do, so little time.. must get my visa done, accomodation.. most importantly my disruption.. hope it can go through wth such short notice.. oh wel.. hope all goes well in the coming days..

went simlim square today to check out some computer parts as well.. i must upgrade my ram!!! my games are running so slowly and i wanna play battle for middle earth! dunno y also my ram is so prehistoric they dun sell it anymore.. so i have to get new ram and cos my old motherboard can't support it i have to change my motherboard, which in turn means i have to change my processor.. which in turn means i have to change my comp casing.. computer salesman are so shrewd! no wonder bill gates and the likes are so rich.. wanted to go try out the indian vegetarian buffet at excelsior but it was closed.. so had to settle for pastamania.. i think i'm getting sick of carbonara.. haha.. and you should try the mango ice near sim lim square! its the best! a few of us are thinking of franchising it.. think its a good idea before this shop starts blossoming around singapore.. haha...

What a christmas.. an earthquake suddenly comes on boxing day morning and thousands of people are now dead... it's amazing Singapore wasn't hit.. thank God.. I am so high right now from all the red wine i had during my cousin's wedding dinner.. its been a long time since i've attended any wedding dinner.. haha..

my fate is sealed. i've finished all the interviews, tests and whatnot.. well, hope i get at least one offer.. sigh.. why do they reply so late!? the suspense is killing me.. this is worse than A levels.. knowing this will determine wad i will do for the rest of my life.. hope i did okay for today's interview.. the questions they asked were all unexpected.. they didnt even ask why i wanted to be a doctor.. hmm.. hope and pray..

The week has finally ended! wad a hectic week it had been.. with my medical centre inspection on friday and my first AH duty yesterday.. because of the inspection on fri, my WONDERFUL senior medic made me stay back almost everyday to do stuff for the stupid inspection.. then in the end couldn't visit my paika friends in hospital then kenna called AS some more.. oh well.. =þ
did AH duty yesterday.. thought could go there and sleep cos the patients could book out over the weekend but we had 3 inpatients.. but i was quite surprised that the hospital food was so nice! if only they could cater for my camp too.. haha.. didn't get to sleep till 3 last nite... damn sleepy now think i shall go catch up on some lost sleep..

i also had hospital attachment last month.. wad an experience.. ambulance attachment was quite uneventful the calls i got were old people having fever, diarrhoea etc.. the only exciting call i got was a guy getting a seizure in the airport.. heh.. my friends managed to withness someone hanging themselves at home (the news came out in 3rd october's sunday new paper), the guy being crushed by the panes of glass and watching the doctors trying to save him by sticking their hands into his chest and massaging his heart ala the matrix but to no avail.. hospital attahcment was more interesting.. really inspire me to become an emergency physician.. haha.. saw a prison inmate being beaten up till his whole face was swollen, someone dislocating his elbow while doing pushups and helping the doctor pull his elbow back in place and the very last case i saw was someone who jumped and was brought to the hospital.. his leg was so fractured that one was about 15cm shorter than the other leg and his neck was also fractured that touching his head would result in his head rolling to one side.. i helped wrap up his body and when his young wife and mother was bought to see his body they just broke down.. why would someone so young with a family do this kind of thing i would never understand.. imagine a mother's heartbreak to have to bury her own son...

haven't been here for a while.. let me reiterate again.. staying in sucks! haha but i only have one more week and my course ends.. but next week going out field.. urgh.. going choa chu kang cemetery, lower mandai and lentor... gonna be one with nature again.. turned 20 last month.. no more a teenager.. hai really getting old.. received a car and t shirt from my sister.. wad a pleasant surprise.. heh.. also wanna thank some of my friends for their SMSes.. =)

hey its the weekend again.. on the 3rd anniversary of 911.. haha its been so fast.. 3 years already.. 5 more weeks and I shall resume my stay out life and start my 5 day week! faster faster come! hmmz have not seen my friends for a long time man.. chorale starts again today.. and I wonder if my olympic medals are still in kimchi land.. bloody kimchs.. argh.. have not watched a movie in a long time.. i wanna watch harold and kumar, les choristes etc etc.. and i have like 8 movie vouchers with me..
btw anyone knows whether there are hp customer service centres around? i really need to repair my ipaq..

It totally SUCKS to stay in! wah liew really cut off from the world.. today a car bomb exploded in jakarta and my father was there and i didn't even know! (about the bomb) haha can't wait for 15 october! then i can get my 5 day week.. argh..
